Perinatal Psychology for Fathers

Having a child should be one of the most exciting times of your life – right? But what if it’s not? The lack of sleep, effect on your relationship and sex life and impact on career and social life can take its toll.

Your child which you thought would have been the source of your greatest joy now causes you to feel stressed and overwhelmed. It is completely normal to one moment be feeling full of love and adoration for your child and the next to be full of anger and resentment.

Difficulties bonding, withdrawal from friends and family, stress, overwhelm, anxiety and fatigue are signs that you may need extra support.

If you have experienced a difficult childhood yourself, having your own child (particularly the first) can bring up unresolved feelings from the past.

Are you a Stressed Father?

Men often feel societal, familial and internal pressure to “be the rock” of the family. This amount of pressure, coupled with exhaustion, fatigue and balancing the demands of life on top of parenting can take its toll.

We know that 1 in 10 dads will experience clinical levels of anxiety and depression, yet more than half don’t seek help.

You don’t have to suffer in silence.
